Oil Prices, Louisville and New Zealands’s David Lange

The air is changing.  That must mean that spring is right around the corner.  Sometimes I think there is something wrong with this country.  It only gets warm for 10 weeks of the year.  The rest of the time we are fighting the cold.  Maybe that’s why some parts of Florida fill up with Canadian ex-patriots.

For those of you who met me in Louisville, you might be hearing from me again.  Country Guide magazine has asked me to write an article on my impressions of the Louisville Farm Show.  Included in the piece will be what I saw new there and what may be on the horizon.  Eventually after its hard copy publication the piece will show up here under the category “Farm Management”.

Do you know anything about “seed cleaners”?  If you do you might want to drop me a line.  I’ll be writing an article for Country Guide magazine on seed cleaners in the next few months.  I run a seed cleaner for a few days in the spring and a few days in late summer.  It’s one of the best ways to improve your bottom line on the farm.  Look for this article in the next couple of months.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been writing about oil prices and wireless technology in At Issue.  Check it out.  Be sure to go to past articles if you have missed something.  Feel free to download anything you like.

East West for March is here and Dr.A.K.Enamul Haque is back with a fabulous piece regarding nuclear proliferation in the developing world.  I chime in with my side of the story.  I hearken back to an earlier trip to New Zealand where I picked up a copy of the thoughts of late former Prime Minister of New Zealand, David Lange.  He had written a book about nukes in the South Pacific and how that affected New Zealand.  I relate that to Enamul’s piece.  Check it out in East West.

Check out the podcasts.  They will change every Thursday as long as I’m close to my iMac.  They are the same as what’s on CFCO radio in Chatham.  However, I produce them myself using GarageBand software.  I convert them into MP3 files in iTunes and then put them up on the website.

Under the Agridome is on a one-week delay.  The agricultural economy continues to teeter.  Last week the Ontario provincial government announced new safety net funding hoping to get matching funds from the federal government.  Ontario farm groups are frustrated with this because they are looking for full funding of the Risk Management Program. (RMP)  Farmers continue to be active.  More rallies are being planned.

That’s it for now.  If you have comments on anything make sure you get in touch.  Just click on those email addresses.  I’ll get back to you in no time.
